Gathering Prayer
Lord, you are both eternal and all-powerful, and as such you in solemn fashion declared at the Jordan River at the baptism of Christ that he was your was your Son and indicated it by sending the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove upon him. Through your Son you have made us your sons and daughters by being born from above of water and the Holy Spirit. Graciously grant that your children will constantly persevere in your good favor.
Our response today to the word of God — You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.
Isaiah 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6
God indeed is my savior;
I am confident and unafraid.
My strength and my courage is the LORD,
and he has been my savior.
With joy you will draw water
at the fountain of salvation.
Give thanks to the LORD, acclaim his name;
among the nations make known his deeds,
proclaim how exalted is his name.
Sing praise to the LORD for his glorious achievement;
let this be known throughout all the earth.
Shout with exultation, O city of Zion,
for great in your midst
is the Holy One of Israel!
